Men’s Cuts is an upscale mens haircuts and skincare salon located in Lakewood, Ohio. Our daily goal is having our customers to looking good and feeling better after they leave our salon. We know that men like style and they are interested in how they look, but sometimes don’t know how to realize the “look” they want. That is why Men’s Cuts was founded by owner/operator, Mae Williams. After researching what was happening in men’s styling Chicago and NYC a few years ago and realizing that this was not represented in the west side of Cleveland, Mae decided to open a men’s salon for men to have a place where they can relax, feel at home and enjoy the hair styling experience.
Qualities of Service — All Men’s Cut’s employees have cosmetology licenses and are specifically trained to cut men’s hair.
Relaxing — Men’s Cuts is the only men’s salon on the west side of Cleveland that offers a neck massage as a requested add-on service to our regular haircuts for men.
Friendly Atmosphere — Our stylist consult with our clients about their look and style. We listen and give our customers what they want.
Low-Key — We offers an alternative to the “rush in and rush out” men’s haircuts approach. Stop in and experience the conversation and atmosphere that was created for you, the man who is interested in how they look and feel.
Mae Williams is the owner/operator of Men’s Cuts. Mae has an extremely varied background from graphic designer to interior design to customer service, which all attribute to her opening Men’s Cuts in December 2013. Mae, a first generation Chinese American, grew up in the Boston area, but is very proud to make the Cleveland area her home. After graduating from Boston College with a Fine Arts Degree, Mae worked as a graphic designer and was starting to work on a Master’s degree in product design at The Mass College of Art when she decided to go to cosmetology school. She received her cosmetology license in 1989 and apprenticed at salons on Newbury Street and Kenmore Square and later worked in a hair salon in downtown Boston.
Mae moved to the Cleveland area over 20 years ago honing her design and customer service skills while working at The Cleveland Plain Dealer and Akron Beacon Journal. At the same time, she designed her own set of Feng Shui cards and appeared on stage for the Every Woman Show and on radio shows. After attending the Virginia Marti School of Design in 2009, Mae realized that she wanted to create a place of her own for men’s hair and skin care. After an exhaustive search, Mae discovered the perfect space in Lakewood. Mae used her design background in creating the logo, signage, interior design down to the granite countertops, and the beard-skin oil that is sold in the salon.
Mae loves what she does and loves the freedom of creating and providing a service that helps others. She is intuitive and has learned what men want and what they need and encourages her stylists to grow through continuing education, be great listeners and always be professional with customers. With opening up her own salon, Mae wanted to show her daughters that success can only come if we want it. It requires lots of initial sacrifice and that family support and friends are needed. Mae is the only Asian American female owner of a men’s salon in Cleveland. Mae is active in the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations. In her spare time, she works out, loves dining out with her husband and friends, shopping with her daughters and travel.
